JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT OFFICER APPOINTED

JANUARY, 2010

The Cobras are delighted to announce the appointment of our Junior Development Officer being Shay Ferguson. At 20 years of age Shay takes on the role with enthusiasm, and great deal of knowledge of junior footy from his days at his local country teams. Shay is currently under going a Sports Management degree at Vic. University .

Shay's background is in Junior & Senior footy at Country area of Sale, last season he played in the VAFA League with Bentleigh. Shay has already completed his level 1 coach's accreditation, and with the current University studies, he sees this as an excellent fit in carrying out the important role as Junior Development Officer

Shay's mission for the cobras is clear:

"The Sandown football club seeks to develop a strong and well developed junior division that will value add to the future of AFL . As the Sandown football club looks to move forward in the Southern Football League it is believed that the basis for this strength will come from a strong up and coming junior division within the club. We aim to do this by the continued progression of junior sides from Aus -kick through to an under 18 side and further ensure they are successful through the careful planning and implementation in a staged and timed manner. It is Sandown Football Clubs belief that at all times the best interest of the children and young people who will be playing in the junior sides will be supported and allowed to have fun. It is not the aim of this club to develop a culture where 'winning a game' takes priority over the best interest of the children / young people and their ability to learn and enjoy the benefits of playing the game."
